Use cross-hatching for a dynamic look. Pay close attention to where the shadows naturally fall on Goku's muscles and hair in the manga.

Start with a good base sketch, then add shading by identifying the light source and adding shadows accordingly to muscles and contours. Watch episodes for reference!

The secret is layers! Start light and gradually add darker tones. Reference Toriyama's artwork to get those shadows just right.

From my experience, using a blend of hard and soft shading really brings out the depth in those spiky hair and muscles. Practice makes perfect!
