To side with the Minutemen in Fallout 4, first find them in Concord during the early mission "When Freedom Calls." Help Preston Garvey and his gang to fight off the raiders and a Deathclaw. After rescuing them, follow their questline by helping settlements, building up the Castle as their home base, and continuously working with Preston. Eventually, you'll get missions that align you against the game's other factions, sealing your alliance with the Minutemen.

Honestly? Just ignore the other factions and keep building those settlements. The Minutemen storyline will practically fall into your lap if you just keep helping out across the Commonwealth!
Just keep doing what Preston asks. Seriously, the guy might as well have a quest marker above his head forever. Help settlements, shoot bad guys, rinse and repeat. Boom, you're the Minutemen's new poster child.
