To spare in Undertale, first, choose 'ACT' in the battle menu and then interact with the enemy in a way that makes them no longer want to fight. You'll know you've done it right when their name turns yellow. Then, you can choose 'MERCY' and 'Spare' to end the fight peacefully!

First-hand tip: I found that sometimes just talking to them or feeding them compliments while in 'ACT' is enough. Those monsters just need some love!
