Just sleep in a bed! While you can't literally fast-forward time at will, sleeping in a bed does speed up time until you wake up. Sure, it's not instant, but it's a simple and in-game way to skip through parts of the day or night.
No way, just play the game as it is! Half the fun is waiting and preparing for what each time of day brings. Speeding up time just ruins the surprise and challenge.
Mods are the way to go. TShock for multiplayer servers lets admins change time, or use Cheat Sheet for single-player. Mess with time responsibly!
