Oh, the Crimson spread - classic Terraria problem! The most effective way is to create a 3-block wide trench around the area you want to protect, or even better, line it with an uncorruptable block like Clay or Brick. This stops the spread because Crimson can't jump across it. Sunflowers planted at the surface also slow the spread on grass. If you've hit hardmode, using the Clentaminator from the Steampunker NPC with Green Solution can cleanse large areas quickly. And remember, always keep an eye on your map to spot any new Crimson areas early!

simple - dig a moat. 3 blocks wide should do it. then laugh in the face of the crimson.
