You can also just use the 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of any Facebook email you get. That works like a charm!
From your Facebook app, tap the three lines, go to Settings & Privacy, then Settings, tap Notifications, and turn off email alerts. Done and done.
Just block Facebook in your email settings. Problem solved!
