The key to stopping mob spawns in Terraria is all about controlling the environment. First off, placing background walls in areas you want to protect is a good move, since most enemies can't spawn where player-placed walls are. Lighting up the area is also crucial; more light means fewer spawn points for the baddies. And if you're really into it, you could use the Peace Candle or Sunflowers, which reduce enemy spawn rates. Don't forget about the Calming Potion either, which lowers the spawn rate even further!

Honestly, just build a moat. Old school but it works. Monsters can't spawn in mid-air, so if there's a gap, they won't pop up. Worked for my base!
