Summoning aliens in Terraria actually refers to triggering the Martian Madness event! You can't exactly 'summon' them like you would a boss, but you can definitely invite them over for a planetary invasion. First, you gotta find yourself a Martian Probe, which spawns randomly in the outer two-thirds of the map, mostly at high altitudes. Make sure not to destroy it! Let it spot you and fly off the screen. Next thing you know, Martians will be RSVPing to raid your world with laser guns and flying saucers.
The Martian Madness event is what you're looking for. It's more of an 'encounter' than a summoning. Keep an eye out for a Martian Probe, then let it escape to start the event. Simple but can be a bit time-consuming since the probe's spawn is kinda random.
