Make sure you're chillin' in space, which is up high near the sky. Then, it's all about patience - hang around until a Martian Probe spots you. Don't attack it! Let it spot you and turn red, then zoom off. That's your RSVP to the Martian party - invasion starts shortly after!
Actually, I found a quicker way - chill on a sky island with a water candle to increase spawn rates. Martian Probes show up faster!
