How to Summon the Alien Invasion in Terraria
To start the alien invasion, also known as the Martian Madness event, you gotta get noticed by a Martian Probe. These little guys mostly hang around the outer thirds of the map, especially in the space layer. Don't destroy the probe! Let it spot you and escape to trigger the invasion.

Just roam around the edges of your map and make sure you're high up, nearly touching the sky. Martian Probes are more likely to spawn there. Once you see one, don't attack it. Let it do its scouting thing and zoom off. Invasion starts shortly after!

You actually don't summon it, you get chosen. Martian Probes find you, not the other way around. Just be in the right place and wait.
