To switch characters in Spyro: Year of the Dragon on PS4, simply play through the game until you free one of Spyro's friends, like Sheila the Kangaroo or Sgt. Byrd. Once you’ve unlocked them, you'll find special portals in certain levels that let you switch and play as those characters!

You can't directly switch characters on the fly in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. But once you unlock characters by freeing them, you can access their unique levels through special portals scattered throughout the game. Time to save those friends!
Just keep playing the main story. As you rescue other characters, you'll unlock special stages where you can play as them. Easy peasy!
Unlock characters first, then use the special portals in levels to switch. Not exactly a hot-swap situation!
