Just look for the absence of an expansion symbol on the card. That's your biggest clue. No symbol, likely 1st Gen!

Spotting 1st Gen Pokemon cards is all about the details! Look for the base set symbol, which is absent on these OG cards, unlike later sets that have symbols. Also, check the bottom of the card for the date and copyright symbol - 1st Gen cards will have a date around 1996-1999. The iconic thick yellow border and original Pokemon design are telltale signs too!

People often forget to check the copyright date. It's the easiest way to tell! If it says 漏1999 or earlier, you've likely got a first edition card in your hands.

Honestly, it's all about the feel and the nostalgia. If you pick up a card and it sends you straight back to the '90s, chances are you're holding a 1st Gen gem.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
