How to Tell if an MTG Card is Foil Etched

Easy tell! Foil etched cards have a distinctive textured finish that's different from regular foils. Regular foils kinda shine all over, but etched foils? They have this unique, almost sparkly pattern, especially noticeable on the card's art and border. Hold it under a light and move it around - the etched parts will catch the light differently, almost like they're 'etched' into the card. Another hint is the card feels a bit different, kinda has a unique texture compared to normal foils or regular cards.

Honestly, it's all hype. I've handled tons, and while yes, there's a difference, it's not night and day. Still, if you're collecting or trading, knowing the diff can save you some embarrassment or even bucks.

Short answer: just look at how it reflects light. Etched foils have a more subdued, detailed sparkle compared to the full-on shine of regular foils.
