How to tell Steam where a game is installed
RegulatingHale·7 months agoEasy peasy! Just go to Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders. Click 'Add Library Folder' and navigate to where your game's installed. Steam will then recognize all the games in that folder. This way, you're telling Steam 'Hey, look over here!', and it starts tracking your games from that new spot.

Actually, Steam's kinda smart already. If you try to reinstall the game, it'll usually detect existing files and skip downloading most stuff. So, just start the install, and Steam might just do the job for you.
Nah, just move the game to where Steam thinks it should be. Less hassle.
Here's what worked for me: I moved my game to a new drive, then in Steam, I uninstalled it (don't panic!), then 'reinstalled' it. When I pointed Steam to where the game now lives, it said 'discovering existing files' and voila – it was like nothing changed.
