For a Great throw, wait until the circle around the Pokémon shrinks to a medium size then toss the ball into the circle. It's all about timing!

Hold the ball, wait for the target circle to be just right (about halfway), and then aim for the center when you release.

Just keep practicing! Soon you'll get the feel for the timing and the aim. Ended up with a Charizard this way, totally worth it.
