I always just hold the PS button until the menu pops up, then select 'Turn Off Device.' Works every time for me!

Go to the Quick Menu by holding the PS button, then navigate to 'Sound/Devices' and select 'Turn Off Device.' Done!

Press and hold the PS button on your controller for about 10 seconds until it turns off. Easy peasy!
