Why would you even want to turn this off? Just go to Settings > Privacy > Activity Status and toggle it off.

Just go to your profile, hit the three lines in the top corner, tap 'Settings,' then 'Privacy,' and turn off 'Activity Status.' Done!
You can turn off the active status on Instagram by going to your profile, tapping on the three horizontal lines at the top right, selecting 'Settings,' then 'Privacy,' and finally 'Activity Status.' There, you can toggle off the 'Show Activity Status' option. Easy peasy!
I turned off my active status by just going to Settings -> Privacy -> Activity Status and flipping the switch. Super simple!
