You can also press the Xbox button on your controller, go to the 'Home' tab, and select 'Turn off console' from the power menu. Simple as that!

Just hold down the Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds until it powers off. Easy peasy!

Straight from experience: Hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for 10 seconds, then it shuts off completely.
