Just hit * on the remote while a video is playing, and toggle CC off. Easy peasy.
Go to your Roku's Home screen, then Settings > Accessibility > Captions Mode, and choose 'Off'. Boom, no more CC!
From personal experience, the settings option is the most reliable. Go to Home > Settings > Accessibility > Captions Mode > Off.
