In my experience, turning off crossplay on Xbox helped me avoid tougher PC opponents. Just change your privacy settings under 'Communication & Multiplayer'. Works great!
If you're on Xbox, just go to Settings > Account > Privacy & Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details & Customize > Communication & Multiplayer > Block 'You can play with people outside of Xbox Live'. Easy peasy!
Seriously, just leave crossplay on! More players = more fun and faster match-making!
PC players, heads up! Crossplay is always on; you can't turn it off. Guess you'll be mingling with everyone!
