Open Facebook, hit the menu icon, go to 'Settings & Privacy', then 'Settings', look for 'Media and Contacts', and toggle off 'Sounds in the app'. Voila!

Easy peasy! Just go to your Facebook app, tap on the three lines (hamburger menu), scroll down to 'Settings & Privacy', tap 'Settings', then scroll to 'Media and Contacts' and turn off 'Sounds in the app'.
You can mute Facebook sounds by going into the app's settings and toggling off 'Sounds in the app'. Took me like 2 minutes!
