You can't actually turn off followers completely, but you can restrict them to friends only.
To turn off followers, go to 'Settings & Privacy', then 'Settings', and select 'Public Posts'. Change 'Who Can Follow Me' to 'Friends'. Easy peasy!
Go to 'Settings & Privacy' > 'Settings' > 'Public Posts' and set 'Who Can Follow Me' to 'Friends'. Boom, no more random followers.
