You can mute those pesky friend suggestions by going to Notification Settings in the app, then finding 'People You May Know', and toggling it off!
Stop Facebook from suggesting friends by heading to your 'Settings & Privacy', then 'Settings', followed by 'Notifications'. Look for 'People You May Know' and turn it off. I've done it myself; it's a game-changer!
