You don't actually need to turn off portrait mode on Snapchat; just tap the icon to switch away from it, and that's it!
Portrait mode gives you that awesome depth effect, but if you want it off, check your phone's camera settings, as Snapchat just uses those.
On some phones, the Portrait mode is controlled by your device's camera app and not Snapchat directly. If that's the case, try switching the mode in your camera app settings before opening Snapchat.
