I always just create a private party and then set the party settings to prioritize party chat over game chat. That way, even if my mic is technically on, none of the randoms in Apex can hear me.

Turning off your mic on PS4 while playing Apex Legends is pretty easy! Just go to the 'Settings' menu, then 'Audio' settings, and you'll find an option to mute your microphone. Toggle it off, and voila, silent mode is on!
