You can't unlock Luigi in the original Super Mario 64 on the N64. He's only playable in the DS remake. Sorry, folks!

To play as Luigi in Super Mario 64 DS, you'll need to find the Luigi painting in Big Boo's Haunt after unlocking Mario. Beat King Boo, and voilà, Luigi's all yours!
