To unlock characters in Mortal Kombat XL, you need to complete various tasks in the game, such as finishing the Story Mode or completing specific towers. Some characters might even be available through DLC packs that you can purchase from the in-game store.
I unlocked new characters by completing the Story Mode and earning Koins to buy them from the Krypt. It's pretty fun digging through the Krypt!
