To unlock most characters in Melee, you can either play a bunch of VS matches or complete specific single-player mode challenges. For example, play 400 VS matches to unlock every character, or beat Classic Mode with 14 different characters to get Mr. Game & Watch.

Some characters need specific tasks. For instance, beat Adventure Mode with Link to unlock Young Link or clear Adventure Mode with Jigglypuff on Normal difficulty without losing a life to get Marth. Check out a full unlock guide to make sure you don't miss anyone!

Unlocking characters in Melee is a nostalgic adventure. I remember spending hours trying to get Mewtwo by playing 20 hours of VS matches. Ah, good times!
