Honestly, just grind the main quests. Beat them and the villages will unlock automatically.
Just keep playing the main quests! As you complete them, new villages will open up for you. Simple as that.
From my experience, the key to unlocking villages is really just focusing on the main quests. As you advance, you'll gradually unlock all the villages.
