First, you need a survivor with the Mechanics skill. Then, build an Auto Shop at your base and upgrade it to unlock advanced mechanics options!

Upgrade the Mechanics skill by having a survivor with it, then use the Auto Shop for upgrades and repairs. Keep wrenching those engines!

I've been playing State of Decay 2 for a while and upgrading mechanics is key. Get a Mechanics textbook, teach it to a survivor, then build the Auto Shop. Do repairs and mods to level up. Easy peasy!
