You can't directly upgrade a PS3 to a PS4 using a USB, but you can transfer data from PS3 to PS4 using an Ethernet cable and the official Data Transfer Utility. The best way is to simply get a PS4 and follow the instructions for data transfer.

Nope, you can't just use a USB to upgrade from PS3 to PS4. Gotta get a new console.

Had the same question before! You can't upgrade directly, but you can use a USB to transfer saved game data and user profiles. You'll still need to buy a PS4 though. Just follow the system's data transfer steps to move your stuff over.
