Using a demon altar in Terraria is super straightforward but kinda epic if you ask me. Just walk up to it with your craftable items in your inventory. You can't miss it; looks like it's having a constant bad hair day with all those purple spikes. Seriously though, you mainly use it to craft pre-Hardmode boss summoning items and certain unique weapons. Remember, you can't pick it up or place it in your house, which is a bummer. It's like a public crafting station, but for all the cool, edgy stuff.

Just smack it with your sword to see what happens. JK, don't. You'll die. Literally, it hurts you. Use it for crafting boss summoning items instead.

Demon Altars aren't that big of a deal. Just find 'em in the Corruption or Crimson areas and use them for special crafts. That's pretty much it.
