Plug your external hard drive into one of the USB ports on your PS4. Go to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices, select your hard drive, and choose Format as Extended Storage. Boom, now you have more space for all those epic games!

First, connect the hard drive to your PS4's USB port. Then go to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices. Select the hard drive and format it. Easy peasy.
