All you gotta do is finish a leader's legacy questline, then you can select their boon at the beginning of a new game to get the benefits.
Boons are unlocked by completing legacy missions. Once you've finished the game with a leader, you can apply their boon to your next playthrough. Simple as that!
Pro tip: If you really want to hit the ground running, unlock and stack multiple boons. Enjoy your zombie slaying!
