Just throw it in lava, LOL. Kidding, don't. You gotta have it equipped and attack the Clothier at night. If not, nothing's gonna happen except maybe you feeling silly.
Honestly, just equip it and punch the Clothier after sunset. It's the easiest boss summoning ritual in the game. You don't even need a special weapon or anything.
