Just press the right button, lol. No, but seriously, it's easy. Make sure you're actually in a situation where the ability can be used, select your Pal, and hit the ability button. Boom! Magic happens.
Honestly, I found some abilities kinda underwhelming. Not all Pals are created equal, trust me. Choose wisely.
