Unfortunately, there's no official way to use a PS3 controller on a PS4 without some type of adapter or third-party software. You're better off investing in a PS4 controller.

Sadly, you can't directly use a PS3 controller on a PS4 without an adapter. Controllers from older generations aren't natively supported on the PS4.

I tried this once because I didn't have a spare PS4 controller. No luck. Eventually, I had to get an adapter, but even then, the compatibility was hit or miss.
