Actually, just plug it in and hope for the best. Windows should recognize the Steam Deck almost immediately because, you know, it's basically a PC. If not, a quick restart usually kicks it into gear.
Don't bother, just get a regular controller. The Steam Deck is overkill for just a controller role on Windows.
