Used a repair kit once to fix my base door and it was a lifesaver. Literally kept the monsters out during a night raid. Just pick it from your bag and click on the thing needing repair. Works like a charm!
TBH, I think crafting new items might be better than wasting repair kits. Most items aren't that hard to make again, and you save the kits for the really valuable stuff.
