You can activate voice chat in Fortnite by navigating to Settings > Audio > Voice Chat and turning it on. Don't forget to adjust your input/output devices as needed!

As someone who plays daily, I can say the key is in Settings > Audio > Voice Chat. Also, wear a headset to avoid echo!
