Using the Nintendo Switch Online app for voice chat in Splatoon 2 can be a bit cumbersome, but it's the official way! I use it to coordinate with friends during Splatfests, and after a few tries, it gets easier.
Unfortunately, Splatoon 2's built-in voice chat option isn't very popular because you have to use a separate app. Discord works better for most players.
