Locate the vertex and one point on either side of it. Use y = a(x-h)^2 + k for the vertex form, then find 'a' by plugging in your point.

I always pick three points on the graph, set up a system of equations with y = ax^2 + bx + c, and solve for a, b, and c. Works like a charm!
