You can use XL Candy to power up your Pokémon beyond level 40! Just select the Pokémon you want to power up, and if you have enough XL Candy, the option will appear.

To use XL Candy, go to the Pokémon's profile and power it up beyond level 40 if you have enough XL Candies.
