Dmitri Mendeleev sorted elements by increasing atomic mass and put those with similar properties in the same column. Genius move!

Mendeleev arranged the first periodic table by atomic weight and grouped elements with similar properties into columns. Cool, right?

By atomic weight primarily. It wasn鈥檛 perfect, but it worked!

I read that Mendeleev not only ordered the elements by atomic weight but also left gaps predicting undiscovered elements. Pretty impressive, huh?
