I've used Dark Fruit and it's quite decent in the First Sea. Its stuns and ranged attacks help a lot, especially when fighting mobs. Give it a shot!

Honestly, go for Light Fruit instead. It's way better for grinding and travel in the First Sea鈥攖rust me, you'll thank me later.
