Not directly, but they're distant cousins in the realm of fantasy games. Magic The Gathering (MTG) and Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) share a parent company, Wizards of the Coast, and both draw from rich traditions of fantasy lore. While D&D is a role-playing game focusing on storytelling and character development, MTG is a collectible card game with strategic deck building and gameplay. However, the fantasy themes and some mechanics can feel familiar across both games. In recent years, there have been crossover sets in MTG that directly incorporate D&D themes, blurring the lines a bit more.

Nope, MTG isn't based on D&D. They're totally different games. MTG is all about that card game life, building decks, and battling opponents. D&D? It's more about crafting stories and going on adventures with your characters. Sure, they might share a fantasy vibe, but that's where the similarities end.

Gotta say, as someone who's sunk countless hours into both, MTG and D&D feel like they live in the same neighborhood of fantasy awesomeness but in different houses. MTG wasn't born from D&D, but Wizards of the Coast sure knows how to sprinkle a little D&D flavor into MTG, especially with the recent sets!

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
