Nope, they're different. 'Cast' specifically refers to using spells from your hand, requiring you to pay mana. 'Play' could be dropping a land for the turn or casting. It's kinda like squares and rectangles; casting is a play, but playing isn't limited to casting.

Not quite! In Magic The Gathering, 'play' and 'cast' are similar but not identical. You 'cast' spells (including creatures, instants, and sorceries). However, 'play' is more general and can refer to playing lands or casting spells. So, all spells you cast are played, but not all plays involve casting spells!

All about context! 'Cast' means you're doing something with spells. 'Play' is the big umbrella term that covers casting spells or putting lands onto the battlefield. So, they overlap but aren't twinsies.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
