Honestly, Rome isn't the best. For pure versatility, China has the edge with their universal bonuses.

Nope. Rome's great, but if you prefer cavalry, go for Byzantium or Germany. It all depends on your play style.

Rome can be awesome, especially with their 5% increased infantry defense and faster building speed. Also, the Roman legionaries look super cool!
