Smoke has some nice moves and you can become intangible, but Sand's versatility and high damage make it better overall.
Smoke is pretty meh in comparison. Go for Sand, trust me.
I've used both, and Sand takes the cake for sure. More versatile and powerful for both PVE and PVP.
I prefer Sand. With its AOE moves and flight, grinding and PVP become way easier!
