Soul Eater NOT! is actually a spin-off/prequel to the main Soul Eater series. It takes place before the events of Soul Eater but focuses on a different set of characters attending the DWMA.

Yep, Soul Eater NOT! is a prequel that gives us a glimpse into the DWMA's past, but with a different vibe and a whole new set of characters!

It's a prequel. Different characters, same cool vibe!

Soul Eater NOT! is more like a side story. It happens before the main series but isn't a direct prequel.

Soul Eater NOT! is definitely a prequel, but it focuses on a new cast of characters instead of the main gang.
